Gay Pride in Bucharest and Bratislava

May 27, 2010

Last weekend, more than 300 participants met for the 6th Annual Gay Pride in Bucharest. But while the parade in the Romanian capital proceeded largely in peace, in Bratislava there were violent attacks. The first Slovak Gay Pride was held there, but the actual parade had to be abandoned. Right-wing counter-demonstrators threw stones and bottles at the more than 600 queer activists and police were not able to provide for their safety. There had been a fierce political fight in the run-up to the Gay Pride. Ján Stola, leader of the right Slovak National Party (SNS), announced that he would come to the demonstration so as to spit on the parade participants. Not only do they threaten moral values, but also actually provoke violence. So of course, one has to fight against this unbearable violence of the homosexuals, if only by spitting like a little girl - how ridiculous is that! But the parade participants also reported that they were cordidally greeted by many passersby on the street. Let us hope that there will be a few friendly and tolerant people in Moscow, too. Despite the ban, Gay Pride organizers want to celebrate their "satanic act" this year again. I wish you success and a peaceful demonstration.
